The genus Strombocactus is monotypic, that means there is only one species: Strombocactus disciformis.
Strombocactus is very close to the genera Turbinicarpus and Ariocarpus.
The seeds of Strombocactus disciformis are dusty, and seedlings and plants grow very slowly.
It takes a few years until the white to cream-colored, up to 4cm large flowers show.
