This type of cactus was discovered by the well-known collector Friedrich Ritter in Bolivia and Northern Argentina and marked with the collection number FR 1142. 1977 was the first description in the magazine "Ashingtonia"
The plant grows initially individually, later upholstered and adorns each year with many, large, bright red flowers.
