This cactus is native to the Tarija department in Bolivia at altitudes of 1400m.
It was first described by Friedrich Ritter and Albert Buining in 1963.
The shoots of the plant are usually only about 2 cm thick.
However, many individual shoots are formed, so that an attractive group is quickly created.
The flowers are orange and reach a diameter of about 3cm.
