This cactus is native to the department of Tarija in Bolivia at altitudes of 1400m.
It was first described by Friedrich Ritter and Albert Buining in 1963.
The shoots of the plant are only about 2 cm thick.
But there are many individual drives, so that quickly creates an attractive cushion.
The flowers are orange and reach a diameter of about 3 cm.
