This plant, which is still known under the old name Notocactus schlosseri, was named after the father of the discoverer, Mr. Hugo Schlosser. It occurs in Uruguay, in the east of the Maldonado department.
The term Parodia erubescens is considered a synonym.
The light yellow flowers reach a diameter of 50mm and have a silky sheen. The purple style is striking.
