This plant, now officially called Parodia schlosseri, was named after the explorer's father, Mr. Hugo Schlosser. It occurs in Uruguay, in the east of the Maldonado department.
The term Parodia erubescens is considered a synonym.
The light yellow flowers reach a diameter of 50mm and have a silky sheen. The purple style is striking.
