This cactus comes from the Mexican states of Coahuila and Nuevo León.
It forms flat pads, the individual shoots are bright green to yellow-green, but are almost completely covered by the white spines.
The very slow-growing shoots are about 2 cm high and reach a diameter of 5 cm.
The flowers appear several times a year are white, the outer petals with a pink or purple central stripe.
They are about 2 cm long and have a diameter of 2.5 cm. The relatively large, green stigma is remarkable.
