This cactus is found in the Mexican states of Guanajuato, Hidalgo and Querétaro.
The shoots reach diameters of 1 to 3 cm and are several cm long.
The yellow peripheral spines are characteristic of Mammillaria elongata, the echinaria variety also has brown central spines.
