This plant, named after the cacti friend Gustav Braune from Kassel, originally comes from the Mexican state of Tamaulipas and grows there near Jaumave at an altitude of up to 2300 m.
The plant initially grows spherically, later becomes columnar and reaches a diameter of approx. 8 cm. The ca. 1.5 cm large flowers that appear in a wreath are pink with a strong central stripe.
