Bombycina means "thorny like silk" and describes the interesting spiky dress of this mammillia.
It grows initially spherical, later up to 20 cm high, 6 cm Ø, light green. Sprouting creates attractive groups.
The flowers, which appear for several weeks in summer, are 1.5 cm long, light carmine, with a dark center.
