The genus Gymnocalycium is native to South America.
You can find them in Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina, as well as in the south of Brazil.
Gymnocalycium tillianum comes from the Argentine province of Catamarca in the Sierra Ambato and grows there at an altitude of about 3000 m.
The bright red flowers reach a diameter of up to 5.5 cm.
