The genus Gymnocalycium is located in South America.
The species horridispinum comes from Argentina, Cordoba province and grows on grassy hills at 700 to 800m high.
The plant was given the name horridispinum due to its rough spines, marginal and middle dorns are up to 30mm long.
The lilac-colored flowers that reach up to 6cm diameter are particularly beautiful. The flower time is about a week.
