This plant, which belongs to the spurge family, comes from the eastern Cape Province of South Africa.
The plant is thornless and resembles a sea urchin.
In the US it is known as baseball spurge.
The flowers are small, yellow-green and rather inconspicuous.

Each seed capsule contains only 3 seeds, and the fruits burst open and throw the seeds away.
