Plants of the genus Epithelantha occur in northern Mexico, as well as in the southwest of the USA. The very slow growing plants reach a diameter of up to 6 cm and sometimes grow with multiple shoots.
The short, white thorns completely cover the plant body. The flowers are pink and only a few mm in size.
