This plant, first described in 1951 as Bolivicereus samaipatanus, comes from the Bolivian department of Santa Cruz and grows there at an altitude of 1000 to 2000 meters. The shoots, which are up to 4 cm thick, initially grow upright, later hanging.
This is a cristat form of this Cleistocactus. Cristat or comb forms mostly arise ´ by spontaneous mutations in the generation of the plant.
