According to the latest nomenclature, there are only 2 species in the genus Acharagma: Acharagma roseanus and Acharagma aguirreanum.
Previously, these two plants were classified into the genera Echinocactus, Escobaria, Gymnocactus, Neolloydia, Thelocactus and Coryphantha.
In 1997 Charles Edward Glass defined the new genus Acharagma.
